Breakthrough: A Documentary About A Raw Vegan Family

I saw this video last year and I enjoyed it immensely. It’s almost two hours long and it documents the daily activities of Storm & Jingee Talifero and their family. It gives you a closer look at what’s its like being raw vegan. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Go Vegetarian: Farm Animals Are More Than A Number

Posted on August 27th, 2007 in Defining Veganism, Vegan, Vegan Videos, Vegetarian, Vegetarian Videos, What Veganism Means To Me by Opal Tribble

I live around a lot of farms. Last year I was taking Aiyana to a local produce farm for their hayride. I decided to take a detour and travel down one of the country roads that I haven not frequented in a long time. During the trip from our house to the farm, we passed by a farm that raised cows. These weren’t factory farmed animals, but they still had their ears tagged with a number.

I slowed down as I passed by, and I felt sad Aiyana wanted to know why the cows had earrings and I told her that these animals were going to eventually be someone’s meal. She was fairly upset.

In her mind animals, despite what species they are, serve their purpose on earth and we don’t really have the right to abuse, kill, or eat them. Yes, indirectly she has learned a lot from her mommy. I don’t talk about Veganism too her a lot at this age but she sees how I treat all animals.

I was raised around farm animals, and I remember the chickens seemed to know when my parents were coming out to kill one of them. They would be off, and it was hard for my parents to catch them. We had free range chickens. I cannot blame the chickens. I would have been running also.

Gary of Animal Writings said…

People are conditioned to think of pigs and chickens (and cows and so forth) as “food animals.” Eating meat seems as natural as breathing to most people. And humans are frighteningly good at compartmentalizing, for example pushing thoughts about the suffering and killing of farmed animals out of their minds.

I often think back to that day and the black spotted cow that was looking at me and part of me cannot help think that it *knew* what was going to happen to her.

Making Tex-Mex Vegetarian Chili With Chef Melissa

Posted on August 27th, 2007 in Vegetarian, Vegetarian Videos by Opal Tribble

Chef Melissa shows us how to make Tex-Mex Vegetarian Chili although she’s not vegetarian she has prepared an extremely tasty animal free recipe. I hope you enjoy her presentation as much as I have. She has included a humorous film clip within the cooking demonstration on the difference between vegetarians and vegans.

I saw only one thing that was inaccurate as much as some people want to think that fish is a vegetarian option until I see it popping from the ground ready to be picked I would have to say it’s not vegetarian.

Vegan Videos: Kenneth Williams speaks about Veganism

Kenneth Williams is a vegan bodybuilder. I really liked this video about veganism and fitness. I definitely can relate to what he is talking about. When I was gearing up for figure competition about almost five years ago, I heard the same thing from my head trainer. He insisted that I needed animal protein to gain muscle. I disagreed and refused to make the switch.

I proved him wrong. Did I compete, my daughter arrived the next year and unfortunately they did not have any pregnant figure competitions if they did I would have entered. I had a fit pregnancy. I still work out daily and am hoping to compete in Figure competition soon.

Enjoy the video!
